the growing popularity of the solo artist 'Melanie C'!
then after the succes of fellow spice girl,melanie b's single 'i want you back' (a number one hit featuring missy elliot) melanie C burst into the charts with the one and only Bryan Adams with the huge hit 'when you'r gone'(not a no.1 single,i think its highest position was no.3, but it was one of the best selling singles of its year!,it stayed in the top ten for weeks on end!).Then she had the guts to 'get out there and release her own solo material,she caused quite a stir with her first true SOLO single 'goin' down' which was quite urban rocky and it was then that she unleashed her solo album 'Northern Star' it wasn't exactly riding high in the charts when it was first released but people soon came to there sences and it is now a huge best seller!
then came mel's epic ballad 'northern star' an autobiographical song on mels life! then mel released 'never be the same again' a 'sure to be' hit with lisa 'left eye' lopez of T.L.C and of course it went straight to no.1 (knocking off geri halliwell).The summer came around and everyone was in the mood for dancing, and then we heard mel was releasing 'i turn to you' next which if you had the album at that time wasn't the best of songs to be released at that time,it was a kinda slow song but we knew mel wasn't silly she released a remix a very cool dancey remix ( Hex Hector radio mix ) and the song was truely amazing it was a HUGE hit in clubs every where,it went straight to number one, this song was truely 'the sound of the summer 2000'.after that mel decided she would do something for charity she released 'if that were me' a song about homelessness in which mel donated all the proceeds to the homeless charity kandu arts - no place home. and that leaves us off here,now,the present and melanie should be starting to record her second album some time soon!
